-Overview-

If you’ve ever experienced the incredibly smooth surface of a glass dildo but felt the weight was too much for you, that’s where Silvarus comes in.  Wooden dildos are surprisingly lightweight, and the products offered by this company are so smooth it’s shocking!  The time invested in every piece added to the shop is not only impressive, but obvious when you look at the quality.  Wood is naturally imperfect, but through the creation process, each dildo is sanded and finished to perfection.  Every dildo sold by Silvarus is one of a kind; the sizes being slightly different, the shapes, and the grain of the wood.  The Double Drop dildo is the most common shape available and it’s understandable why.  It might seem basic, but the design works like a dream!  If you’re thinking about purchasing a wooden dildo, this is the manufacturer you want to buy from.  Not only is the quality spot on, but I don’t know of another shop that’s willing to craft a dildo specifically for you.

-Intro/Use-

The Double Drop dildo from Silvarus is a wooden dildo with a fantastic shape.  Each end of the toy (potentially) offers a different thickness, making it like two products in one. The curve of the toy and the prominent ends compliment each other and make it easy to connect with the G-spot area, and since the center of the toy is much thinner than the ends, it keeps your focus on targeted stimulation.

Since the dildo is so lightweight and simple, it’s great for partnered play as well as solo use.  The material is rigid, so make sure you’re open with your partner if they’re accidentally thrusting too hard.  Because the toy is light, it’s less likely to happen, but it’s important to be aware of it.  The shape of the toy is safer for anal use than completely straight toys, but you still need to use caution.  You’ll also need to cover the toy in a condom before insertion since the surface can’t be sterilized.  It’s best to stick with using the Double Drop vaginally, but you could always contact the shop owner to see about them making you a toy specific for anal use.

Though wood is naturally porous, the finish completely encases the wood and makes it totally waterproof.  There are no concerns about using the toy in the tub or shower, and it’s really easy to clean.  The surface can get a little slippery when it’s wet, so be careful that you don’t drop it.  If it hits a hard surface, the finish might be compromised and the dildo could become unusable (treat it the same way you would treat glass products, and you should be fine).  If you’ve dropped the toy, you can always check it by placing it in a sink full of water.  If the wood changes color, it means that there has been damage and you should retire the piece.

-Material/Texture-

Untitled-3There are many different options when it comes to the type of wood your dildo is made from; some are more difficult to find/work with and will cost a little more (but they’re worth it!).  My Double Drop dildo is made from Quilted Maple which is truly stunning!  The wood is a light color, but features gorgeous silver-like ripples that seem to jump out from the piece.  It has an almost 3-D effect to it which really gives the dildo life.  The particular colors and look of your dildo will differ from mine since the artisan can’t see how it looks until he cuts into it, but every piece he has for sale is beautiful in its own way.  If you want something a little more detailed, you can also contact the owner about burning a pattern into the wood to give it a little something extra (examples can be found here and here).

Untitled-4One of the main concerns about wooden products is whether or not you can get splinters.  As long as your dildo hasn’t been damaged, there’s no way it could possibly harm you in that way.  The surface is completely flawless.  It’s literally as smooth as glass.  You won’t find brush strokes, particles in the finish, or areas that weren’t evenly covered by the varnish.  When you purchase a product from Silvarus, you can feel confident that you’re purchasing a high quality and safe product.  I have no other way of proving how incredibly smooth the surface is, other than the show you an image of how it shines in natural light.

The varnished used is a diluted water-based polyurathane that’s commonly found on indoor surfaces that are often used, including children’s toys.  If it’s safe for your child to put in their mouth, it’s naturally safe for you to put inside your body.  When it comes to cleaning you can use soap and warm water and can dry with a soft cloth.  You should never use alcohol or other chemicals to try to clean the surface.  Enough research hasn’t be done to determine whether or not a 10% bleach solution is safe to use on the toy, so it’s best to use a condom when sharing.  Any lubricant type is safe to use with the dildo, and a little goes a long way thanks to the perfect surface.

-Design/Size-

The design of the Double Drop dildo is quite basic, but very effective.  The shape allows either end to be inserted while the opposite side acts as a handle.  It’s ergonomic and extremely comfortable to use.  Extended sessions are possible without feeling like your arm/hand/wrist is getting tired because it’s so light and the shape works naturally with your body.

Since each dildo is unique, the size and shape of the one you receive will be different than mine.  If you’re having a custom dildo made, you can decide the size of each end and the overall length of the toy.  Even if you’re a total beginner, the artisan will be able to create something for you.  Your experience level shouldn’t determine the pleasure you’re able to receive, and Silvarus is more than willing to work with anyone; creating the right dildo to meet your needs.  If you aren’t sure what you might like, there are always at least a few dildos in the shop that you can choose from as well.  The sizes are listed on each product page.

If the dildo I received looks like a good size for you, here are the measurements:

  • Length (measured straight, not along the curve): 8 3/4″
  • Width of right side: 1 1/2″ in diameter
  • Width of left side: 1 3/8″ in diameter
  • Width of center: 3/4″ in diameter

-Packaging-

The Double Drop dildo, and others from Silvarus, arrive in a plainly marked package and ship from Canada.  Inside the package, your dildo is wrapped in a square piece of felt that’s tied with a ribbon, and is surrounded with bubble wrap to make sure nothing happens to your piece during shipping.  The felt can be used to store the toy, but it’s not ideal.  It would have been nice to see a pouch included with the dildo, but they’re easy enough to make/purchase that it’s not a deal breaker.

-Experience-

The Double Drop dildo from Silvarus is the first wooden toy I’ve had the pleasure of using.  After admiring from afar, I finally reached out, asking if the artisan was interested in having me review one of their gorgeous pieces.  To my delight, they agreed, and my dildo was created.  If you want to hear about each step involved and see progress photos, you can check out this post.

Untitled-5My first impression was one of surprise.  I’d never handled a wooden toy like this and I was really shocked by how light it was; easily weighing less than every other dildo in my collection.  I immediately unwrapped the piece and stood near the window to take a closer look.  I inspected the surface to see if it was flawed in any way, admired the amazing details of the wood, and slid my fingers along the perfectly smooth surface.  To say I was excited is an understatement!

I really wasn’t sure what to expect the first time I tested the toy.  I like thick toys, or smaller toys with texture to them.  The size of my Double Drop is thinner than I typically use, but the shape was promising.  The surface made it easy to insert, even without adding lubricant, though you should depending on the size of your toy and what you’re used to.

The way it hugged my body was amazing.  The wood has a warmth to it that feels natural, and the shape was perfect.  I was able to sort of rock the toy in and out which allowed it to skim across my clit in the process.  I was in heaven!  After testing out both sides, I found the smaller end to be more stimulating because it’s a little more curved – though both feel amazing!

I’ve since received wooden dildos from two other companies, and neither of them match the quality Silvarus offers.  The Double Drop I received is flawless, and it’s the same quality you can expect from each of their pieces.  If you’re in the market for a wooden dildo, I’m not sure you’ll fine one better or more affordable; not to mention other companies don’t offer custom pieces.

Because of the time invested and the cost of materials, the prices will be rising starting June 1st, 2014.  The owner/artisan has been wonderful enough to provide this information in advance, and has even provided a discount code to save you even more.  For the next two weeks, you can save 10% using code ‘potter’ at checkout.  Trust me, it’s worth it!

  1. Don’t really like the fact that you can’t sanitize it. That’s a bad idea even if you don’t share it, IMO. But it is beautiful. Would be perfect if the creator could use a finish that is known to withstand 10% bleach.
I’ll hopefully be reviewing a wood sex toy soon and I can’t wait.

    • You can use anti-bacterial soap. I asked him about it and he said:

“Any lubricant can be used yes, although since I haven’t done any tests or research about using bleach in any concentration, I would at this point NOT recommend it.”

I would almost assume it would be safe, since I believe children’s toys can be cleaned that way, but without being tested I understand not recommending it.

    • I’m Rickard and the “artisan” who designed and created Silvarus and all the products released.
I answer the question about cleaning, lubricants and varnish type quite often, for obvious reason. Using bleach or other stronger chemicals to clean and/or sterilize the product is probably just fine, but since I at this point in time cannot say for 100% certainty that it is, then I also cannot recommend it to the client. When the surface coating material has cured totally it is safe to use and will not leach any residue what so ever, harmful or not, from the use of water, soap or other mild cleaners. It is just the use of more powerful agents that I cannot recommend since they MIGHT be able to alter the chemical appearance of the finish used. Again, it is highly unlikely, but since I don’t at this time, have that information I can only recommend anti-bacterial or mild soap and water.

Sorry for the long comment. Wasn’t my intention but it is an issue people do wonder about. Any question what so ever please don’t hesitate to send me an email or Etsy conversation on above mentioned Etsy store (Website being constructed).

  2. Oh my…. it looks so amazing. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it!

  3. This looks freaking amazing, I love the designs in it. Glad you enjoyed it.

  4. Ah, I’m so sad I just missed the cut off point for the code. However, since I was hoping to customize something a wee bit larger than the maximum size listed on the site…oh well.

  5. Wow, yours is very pretty! I like the wood’s swirliness. I know he can’t 100% back up bleaching, but I’m glad it’s an option; I think this would feel amazing anally.

  6. This is a gorgeous toy. I want one. I’m also totally impressed that the toy-maker posted a comment here to explain about the bleaching issues.

  7. Disagree on sterilization. Its non-porous and sealed, so simply wipe with an alcohol pad before and after use.
