One of my biggest challenges as a female is learning to accept myself as I am.  It’s easy to compare myself to other women and to standards that few actually rise to.  I’m far from perfect.  I have stretch marks, cellulite, varicose veins, lopsided breasts, and an array of other imperfections that seem to scream at me every time I look in the mirror.  These issues (and more) have plagued me for most of my life, dating back to pre-school years when my older sister used to pick on me for my chubbiness.

Why?

This is me.  Aside from suddenly inheriting millions of dollars from the passing of some Great Aunt I never knew I had and turning myself plastic, there are a lot of things I can’t change.  Obsessing over things that are out of my control doesn’t change them, it changes me; my view of myself, my attitude, and my overall feelings in general.

The past few years I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching, and have realized that this negative focus has done nothing but poison me.  I spent too many days feeling ugly because I only wore men’s t-shirts in an attempt to hide myself.  Too many times I was uncomfortable and sweaty in jeans because I was afraid of someone seeing my thighs.  Too many times I would try looking feminine only to give up because I didn’t have women’s clothing, didn’t know how to properly apply makeup, and had no clue what to do with my hair.

Enough already!

This past spring I decided that this was my summer of change!  A few weeks ago, I told my husband I wanted to go out and buy a few women’s shirts, including tank tops.  Now, this might seem like a tiny thing to some, but the last time I wore a tank top was when I was about 100 lbs lighter than I am right now and the last women’s tee I wore was 50 lbs ago.  Sad, when I think about it.  Anyway, my husband provides for five of us, so we don’t exactly have extra money all the time, and being the mommy, I usually allow my wants to be met last.  So, we went to Walmart and I picked up a few Just My Size items to try out.  Clothes shopping is usually depressing for me, and annoying to the man because it puts me in a horrible mood.  Things don’t fit right, I look awkward, the largest size doesn’t fit, etc.  Being a larger woman is really hard sometimes, so avoiding clothes shopping has never been a problem for me.

To my great surprise, three out of four pieces fit me, and the one that didn’t was too large!  My husband breathed a sigh of relief when I walked out of the changing room with a smile on my face!  It was the first time I left a store feeling empowered and genuinely good about myself.

It’s the little things, right?

The beach is a place we frequent often.  It’s not far from where we live, the kids love it, and my husband and I enjoy beach combing and playing with the kids.  I usually cuff the bottom of my jeans and wear a t-shirt when we go, but today I decided it was time to make another step toward embracing the skin I’m in.  No, I didn’t wear a bathing suit (in fact, I don’t own one), but I did wear a tank top and the shortest shorts I’ve ever worn in public before!  I was comfortable, was able to go out into the water much further than normal, and had an amazing time!  Hard to believe self acceptance could ever feel this good!  To mark my progress, I had my handsome man take this photo of me:

beachme

As I said, it’s not like I’m practically naked, but today was major progress toward an important goal!

Don’t obsess with becoming beach body ready; focus on accepting the things you can’t change and love yourself despite them!

*Note*

I am actively working on losing weight (20 lbs down so far), and I certainly am not saying that you shouldn’t try to improve the things you can change.  Be healthy; physically and emotionally!

Ella by Lelo

Pros:
- Body safe material
- Dual ended
- Beginner friendly
- Unassuming design
Cons:
- Not anal safe
- Pointy (one end)
- Too basic for some
Overall:

4starUntitled-6

-Use-

Elegant and sophisticated, Lelo’s Ella  was made to please!  Great for beginners and advanced users alike, Ella is a slender dildo that’s designed to keep the focus on targeted stimulation, rather than providing a full feeling.  Each end of the toy is shaped differently and provides a different sensation; making it like having two toys in one!

This beautiful toy is best used for solo play, but certainly can be used with a partner as well.  This toy is quite firm considering it’s made from silicone, so do be careful when thrusting.  Aggressive thrusting could possibly bruise the cervix (putting your vagina out of commission for a while) so don’t be afraid to be verbal with your partner if they’re causing you discomfort.

Ella is best used vaginally, though experienced anal players might be able to use it.  Being that there isn’t a real flared base to the toy, you do need to use caution.  The curved design of the toy should prevent it from accidentally slipping inside of you, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

-Material/Feel-

Ella is made from body-safe silicone which is one of the safest materials for a sex toy.  Silicone is non-porous, latex free, and phthalates free; all great reasons to select this material above others.

The surface of this dildo is buttery smooth and unlike many silicone toys, this one doesn’t have any drag and doesn’t attract much lint.  It has a matte finish which helps give it the silky feeling which, in my opinion,  feels so much nicer than the shiny silicone that tends to feel tacky to the touch.

Ella is very firm and doesn’t have any give when you squeeze it in your hands.  The narrowest area of the toy does have some movement to it.  You can slightly bend the toy back and forth and side to side, but it does take a little bit of effort.  The rigidity of the toy is great for providing firm pressure against your G-spot, while having just enough give in the neck of the toy to prevent it from potentially causing discomfort.
Untitled-1

There isn’t an  obvious texture to the toy (certainly not ribbed or something similar), but the design itself prevents it from being totally bland feeling.  Someone who’s texture sensitive shouldn’t be bothered by it since it’s not very prominent, but it’s still much better than a totally straight toy.  On either side of the plain end, the word ‘LELO’ is imprinted in the silicone.  You probably won’t be able to feel it during use, but you do need to make sure you clean the areas well since lubricant and bodily fluids could get trapped there.

-Design/Size-

The look of this toy is what really drew me in; Ella was obviously designed with the female anatomy in mind.  This dildo is available on Toy Box Under The Bed in both Rose and Black.  The rose coloring is attractive, but reminds me more of a deep magenta than that of a rose.

On one end, you have the obvious G-spot seeker.  The hooked end features a broad tip that’s great for rubbing directly against your sweet spot.  Don’t know where yours is?  This great dildo is sure to help you find it!  While it might not cause you to wake the neighbors from your earth shattering orgasms, Ella will certainly help familiarize you with your body.
Untitled-2

The opposite end is a little more basic, though not boring like some straight dildos.  The tip comes to a rounded point which is great for those that aren’t used to penetration since it’s very easy to insert.  This end gets wider almost instantly before narrowing at the neck of the toy.
Untitled-3

Both the straight and hooked ends are easy to hold during penetration and the lightweight feeling of the toy prevents your hands and wrists from tiring during use.

The full size of the toy is 7″ in length with roughly 5″ of that being insertable.  The diameter of the hooked end is 1″ and the opposite end is 1 1/4″ at the widest area.  This is a fairly petite dildo, and while it might fall short for the size queens, it’s great for those that prefer slimmer toys and for beginners.

Because Ella isn’t realistic looking, it’s far more discreet than a lot of dildos.  While this toy probably couldn’t pass for anything other than a sex toy (or maybe a massage tool), it certainly shouldn’t embarrass you like a phallic toy might.  The elegant look doesn’t attract attention, making it a great toy to travel with, or to own if you have roommates.

-Care-

Silicone is one of those great materials that is so easy to clean!  After regular use, you can simply clean with an antibacterial soap and warm water, or your favorite sex toy cleaner; easy peasy.  If you’re planning on sharing with someone else, you’ll want to sterilize it.  This can be done by boiling it in water for up to three minutes, wiping it down with a 10% bleach solution, or by putting it on the top rack of your dishwasher.

Ella is very smooth and comfortable to insert, but you might find you need a little lube to help things slip in and move a little easier.  This toy is compatible only with water-based lubricants.  Other lube types might cause the surface of the toy to degrade, so it’s best to stick with water-based than chance ruining your toy.

This dildo comes with a little pouch which makes it really easy and convenient to store.  The pouch itself is black and quite durable.  It closes easily with a drawstring and has a little tag on the outside that has the company name on it.  Apart from the tag, the pouch looks very discreet and is sized perfectly for the toy.

-Packaging-

Ella arrives in a very attractive and durable black box that’s surrounded by thin cardboard that shows you an image of the toy on one side, the company name on the other, and gives you key points about the product and what it contains.  The outer box is not discreet, but that part can be removed and recycled.  The inner box only has the company name on the top, nothing else gives away what it contains.

Once you open the black box, there’s a clear plastic covering over the toy and it’s in full view.  Once that’s removed you can get to the toy.  The plastic it’s housed in fits the toy perfectly and prevents it from moving around inside the box.  That plastic tray needs to be removed in order to get to the other goodies that are included with your dildo.

A storage pouch, lubricant sample, user guide, and authenticity card are also included.  The lubricant is water-based and is made by Lelo themselves, the user guide gives you all the important information you need to know in several different languages, and the authenticity card is what you use to register your toy and activate your one year warranty.
Untitled-4

The box or pouch can be used as storage.  If space is an issue for you, it might be wise to recycle the box itself (by either breaking it down and putting into your recycle bin, or by reusing it for something else) and use the included storage pouch.
Untitled-5  -Experience-

Considering how simple Ella really is, I am impressed with the way it preforms.  I will openly admit I’m still on a quest to achieve the elusive G-spot orgasm, and while Ella doesn’t take me there, it certainly does stimulate all the right areas.  The hooked end may cause a problem for some because it could get a little hung up on your pelvic bone, but it didn’t really cause an issue for me.  I found the slender design to be quite nice with this toy since your focus is directed on the stimulation.

It’s not my favorite toy, but it’s nice and works just as well as you would expect.  Lelo takes a lot of pride in the quality of their products, and this is no exception.  If you’re looking for a toy to help stimulate your G-spot, but aren’t sure what will work for you, give Ella a shot.  With two different ends, you’re more likely to find some way that this toy will work for you.

Ella can be found at Toy Box Under The Bed, and entering ‘POTTER‘ into the discount box at checkout will get you an extra 10% off!

Over two years ago, my husband and I went to visit a tattoo artist/friend of his because it had been years since they had seen each other.  Joking about what he was going to get tattooed, it somehow came up that he would get our wedding date; making it impossible for him to forget.  I never thought he would actually do something so personal like that, so I told him, “If you get that, I’ll get a property stamp on my lower back”.  I think that idea excited him more than anything!  He got tattooed first, getting our newborn daughter’s hand print on his throat, and while I was tending to our daughter, he also got 09-22-10 tattooed along the base of his thumb.  After that, it was on!  My property stamp was inked into my skin, forever showing who I belong to.  Everyone always said that you should never get a partner’s name tattooed on you, but I happen to love that his name is forever on my body!

Yesterday we spent the day with family and friends and were able to watch some awesome fireworks.  It had been years since I saw a show and my kids all really enjoyed it.  I was able to snap a few photos of the beauty, so in case you’re unable to catch them this year or if you’re outside of the country, please enjoy what I was able to capture!

The 4th of July is truly set in place to celebrate our (the United States) independence through the adoption of the Declaration of Independence which was adopted back in 1776.  Here, you’ll find more information about Independence day, what it represents, and how it all came to be.  As for us?  We love to celebrate it by getting together with the people we love and simply enjoying our time together.

Tonight, I’m celebrating in an unconventional way.IMG_2894(Pictured: Dreamgirl Stretch Lace Open Crotch Boyshorts, Wet Body Glide Flavored Lubricant, and We-Vibe Salsa)

Are you doing anything to celebrate tonight?  Are there any ‘fireworks’ in your evening plans?

Awesome sale? I think so!

Q&A With Co-Owners Of Toy Box Under The Bed!

 -Featured-  1 Response »
Jul 032013

Recently on twitter, I saw a company name that wasn’t familiar to me; Toy Box Under The Bed.  As they were actively seeking out bloggers to review products for their sex toy shop, I was also looking for companies to review for.  Perfect match?  Sounded like it to me!  After joining their brand new blogger/review program, I decided to toss out the idea of a little Q&A, a chance to get us all familiar with the owners and the shop itself.

To celebrate one month in business (yes, this awesome site is that new), here are some questions to help familiarize us all with this great new shop.

What inspired you to start your own adult toy store?

We had been looking into different business opportunities with low overhead and unlimited possibilities in hopes of using any profits from the business to fund IVF.  We have been trying to conceive on and off for the last 2-3 years.  Then after having a failed adoption last year, we decided it was time to move onto IVF.  However, the price tag of IVF is pretty hefty! In one of Kate’s insomnia-induced “genius” episodes, she came up with the idea to sell sex toys.  Lesbereal, she was probably horny and who doesn’t like sex toys?

Were your family and friends involved/supportive of that decision?

Our friends think it is great! We are both from conservative households, though, so we haven’t told our family members about our business.  We seriously doubt they’d be involved or supportive of the business.

How did you choose the name?

We sat on the couch just throwing out names and thought about our own “toy box.”  We joked about how all lesbians have a toy box somewhere.  We started playing around with different places a toy box could be kept, and “Toy Box Under The Bed” sounded much better than “Toy Box Under The Bathroom Sink.”  What we have learned since starting our business is that it is not only lesbians that have a toy box!

How long did it take for the idea to become a reality?

Honestly, it all happened very quickly.  When we set our mind on something, we tend to obsess on making it happen.  We found a distributor that had amazing prices and signed up with them as soon as we came up with our business name.  The next day Kate spent the entire day getting our business license, tax information, and all other necessary items together.  We were live and online within the next day!

What overall feel do you hope customers get from your shop?

We strive to be customer oriented.  We really want customers to feel that they can email us for product suggestions, information, or any other questions they have.  We also want to make sure that we keep our prices affordable, so everyone can enjoy the world of sex toys! We got tired of having to pay a fortune for sex toys, so we want to be the place people come to for affordable, yet quality, products.

How do you decide what to carry in your shop and do you feel that your personal sex life has any influence on that?

When we first started, we were focused on carrying products for a lesbian audience, which was of course based on our personal sex life.  However, we quickly realized that men and straight couples were interested in sex toys, also.  We did not want to limit our product selection and leave other groups of people out.  We began adding products that would appeal to all people and all types of sex.  Our eyes have definitely been opened to products that we did not even know existed! We are actually working on adding some new products, so make sure you stay on the lookout!

Do you feel that the sex toy industry is fair to all genders?  How do you think it could be improved?

The thing that bothered us the most was when we were going through the sex toy images.  Most of the images were of skinny-waisted women with large boobs and didn’t even pertain to the product that was trying to be sold.  We have gone through most of our products to ensure that the images shown are of the product or are helpful in showing how the product is used.  We would love to see toys marketed to women better, such as the way that LELO products are marketed.

Personal:

What was your first toy, how old were you, and how did you obtain it?

Kate: I was 18, and I went to a store called Condom Knowledge in Tallahassee, FL.  I was a freshman in college and had never seen a sex toy before.    It was called “My First Vibe” with a bonus vibe ring, It was baby blue.  I’m pretty sure it isn’t even sold anymore! However, it looks a lot like our “Velvet Touch 7 Inch Vibe.”  Funny story: when I went back home that summer, I took the vibe home with me and shoved it under my mattress.  My mom decided to wash my sheets while I was at work and found it! She threw it away and NEVER talked about it again.

A (uses initial since she works in a job that needs privacy): I honestly don’t remember what my first toy was exactly.  All I remember is that I was 16 and went to a store called Condom Knowledge in Panama City Beach, FL.  I assume it was a dildo of some sort.  I do not have a funny story.  :)

What’s your favorite toy?  Is it carried in your store?

Kate: If I had to choose one…I couldn’t.  Soooo, I’m going to go with my two favorite.  First, the Wand Essentials Multi-Speed Body Massager plugs in, which means I never have to hunt for batteries.  I also love that is has all the different speeds.  I haven’t tried any of the attachments yet, but I do plan to soon!  It is a little loud, but the pleasure is so great, I can live with the noise. My second favorite would be the Echo Silicone Vibrating Dildo.  I really, really love the way the Tantus products feel.

A: I honestly love all of our Doc Johnson dildos.  The one I prefer to strap up with the most is the Naturals Cock. I also swear by Liquid Silk lubricant since it looks like a certain bodily fluid, if you know what I mean. J Mixing the two products is great for gender play!

Have you always been a sexually open person?  If not, what changed that?

Kate: Well, in high school, I was sure I was going to be a nun.  Then I went to college and all of that changed.  I began to explore my sexuality and became very open to new experiences.  Now, I’m actually completing my Master’s degree in sociology with a focus on sex, sexuality, and gender!

A:  I was always the “wild child.”  As a teenager, I was very interested in exploring my sexuality.  I think I’ve actually calmed down as I’ve grown older.

If you could teach every customer one thing, what would it be and why?

Kate: Just be who you are, because that is the only thing that will make you truly happy.

A: Be comfortable in your own skin, because everyone is beautiful and special in their own way.  (I still struggle with that one sometimes, though!)

These wonderful women aren’t looking to turn profits, they’re hoping to be able to start their family thanks to this business!  Can you think of a better reason to support a company?  Family has always been extremely important to me, and having three of my own I totally understand the want and drive to have children.  These great women have the right goals in mind and have created a welcoming and fun shop that will help you full up your own toy box, whether it’s under the bed or not!

Please take a moment to check out this great little shop!  As you can tell, the owners are fantastic and are open to feedback; something you can’t say for a lot of adult companies.  If you see something you like, don’t forget to use code “POTTER” at checkout to receive an additional 10% off your purchase!

I feel him tight against his jeans, pressing into me
while I try hard to fight the urge that surges deep inside of me.
Hands roam, temperatures rise;
I’m holding back, unsure of why.
Warm lips grazing mine,
with hushed whispers reassuring me;
I focus hard on playing the part
and letting go of insecurities.
Strong hands remove my clothes,
allowing my secret skin to be seen.
His gaze is fixed, drawing me in,
deepening my sudden need.
Open mouths, well placed hands;
pleasure mounts as time stands still.
All at once the fear is gone and all that’s left
are needs fulfilled and a
single
built up
tear.

Having three children, there are many days I look at them with pride; so impressed by their accomplishments and how wonderfully they’re all developing into amazing young ladies.  Still, there are many moments where I just shake my head listening to some of the things that come out of their mouths.

For some reason, my children always end up enjoying the word, ‘cock’.

Before you think negatively of me, it certainly isn’t because they’ve heard me screaming it out from the bedroom (fortunately they’re heavy sleepers!).  No, instead, innocent words become vulgar when filtered through their developing speech.  My oldest daughter, the one that was lucky enough to have my undivided attention, was very articulate from a young age.  She never choked out the word ‘cock’, intending to say something else.  Ah, her innocence!

My middle daughter was the first to use such vulgarity; proclaiming that her ‘cocks’ belonged on her feet.  While my jaw dropped and I tried to hide my laughter, my husband found it especially funny and decided to toss her a sock of his from the clean laundry basket I had just finished folding.  After he asked her what it was, we both died in laughter as she told us it was “Daddy’s cock”.  Oh joy!

Though it was funny, being the responsible mother that I am, I started working on it with her to correct it.  I would repeat the ‘s’ sound at the beginning of the word to help her understand that SOCK begins with that sound.  ”S S S SOCK” I would say to her, to which she would repeat, “S S S Daddy cock”.  No matter how many times I would repeat it to her, it always ended in the same result.  I gave up after a while, and tried to avoid allowing her to discuss socks, especially outside of the house.

Eventually, she mastered the ‘s’ at the beginning of the word, but not before my husband took a video of her innocent vulgarity.

Fast-forward a couple years, and we have a new little smut talker in the making.  My youngest daughter turned two only a few months ago, and though you can understand just about everything she says, she still stumbles over a few words.

Smut word #1: Fuck = Fork

Smut word #2: Douche = Juice

and today…we officially get to add COCK to the list.

We had to run a few errands today at Walmart and I always try to engage my children in light chat so that the time doesn’t drag for them.  Knowing that my sweet little girl takes so much pride in her shoes, I decided to point to them and let her know that I thought she had, “Nice Crocks”.  She gave me her big grin that melts my heart, angled her head to the side and said, “Mmhmm, nice cocks!”

I froze, then checked to see who else may have heard.  It looked like I was in the clear, but my husband, thinking it was overly humorous, decided to mention how lovely he also thought they were.  We proceeded down the aisle as she called out to everyone, “Nice cocks!  Nice cocks!”

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that she talks to everyone she sees and loves repeating herself.

Oh the joys of parenting!

Have you ever heard a child say something vulgar?  Was it intentional, or because they weren’t pronouncing something right?
